To the north of Mt. Fuji lies Lake Kawaguchi. From there, the magnificent scenery with Mt. Fuji in the background has long captivated visitors. With the sakura blossoms of spring, the absence of snow on the summit in summer, the vivid leaves of autumn, and the beautiful snowy landscapes of winter, a different scenery can be experienced in each season. There are also a variety of tourist attractions in the vicinity such as hiking courses, art galleries, museums, and theme parks.

Mt. Arakura Sengen Park 新倉山浅間公園

Located halfway up Mt. Arakura, the park boasts a sweeping view of Mt. Fuji and its surroundings. With a five-story pagoda, the park is popular with foreign tourists as a spot where a uniquely Japanese landscape can be photographed of the pagoda with Mt. Fuji in the background.

Lakeside Walking Trail 湖畔の遊歩道(ウォーキングトレイル)

A walking trail that runs approximately 1.2 kilometers along Lake Kawaguchi’s northern shore. In the surrounding area, there are numerous tourist attractions such as the Mori Museum of Kawaguchiko Music Boxes and the Flowers of Trees Art Museum. In mid-April, the beautiful cherry blossoms bloom and the walking trail comes alive with visitors who come to view them.

The Inverted Fuji at Oishi Park 大石公園の逆さ富士

The Inverted Fuji at Oishi Park

Oishi Park is located on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchi. From mid-June till July, the beautiful contrast between a snowless Mt. Fuji and the purple lavender is a sight to see. Additionally, visitors have the opportunity to see an “Inverted Fuji” on the lake’s surface in the early morning hours of a calm and windless winter day.

A ropeway that connects the shores of Lake Kawaguchi to the towering Mt. Tenjo to the east. From the observatory on the summit, visitors can enjoy a commanding view of Lake Kawaguchi and the majestic Mt. Fuji. There is also a 40-minute hiking trail that visitors can take to reach the observatory. From mid-July to August, visitors can enjoy this hike among blossoming hydrangeas.

An amusement park located at the foot of Mt. Fuji and near Lake Kawaguchi. Although popular among young people for thrill-rides such as the FUJIYAMA and TAKABISHA roller-coasters, there are also attractions that families and people of all ages can enjoy. They also operate a pool during the summer and an outdoor ice-skating rink in the winter.

Mt. Fuji’s Fifth Stage 富士山五合目

Mt. Fuji's Fifth Stage

At an altitude of 2305 meters, there are rest houses, shops, a post office, and currency exchange offices. Horses can be rented here to reach the seventh stage, with Lake Yamanaka and Lake Kawaguchi clearly visible enroute. It takes 50 minutes to reach by bus from the Fuji Express Line’s Kawaguchiko Station.

Oshino Hakkai 忍野八海

The source of water is Mt. Fuji. Rain and meltwater filters through the ground beneath Mt. Fuji for approximately 20 years before gushing from eight springs. The view of Mt. Fuji from Oshinohakkai is stunning, and it is wonderful to see in each of the four seasons. It is a tourist destination whose famous waters have been designated a natural treasure of Japan.

Saiko Iyashinosato Nenba 西湖いやしの里根場

At one time said to be the most beautiful in Japan, this outdoor museum is the reproduction of an ancient thatched roof settlement. There are 20 thatched-roof houses built in a cluster. In these houses are a various shops such as souvenir shops, soba shops, and arts and crafts corners. From the top of the village hill, visitors can get a spectacular view of both the village and Mt. Fuji.
